Cats in Istanbul, Izmir, Bodrum and Foca in Turkey. Early this year I travelled to Turkey to see cats. I was attracted to the story of Tombili ( a stray cat who lived in Ziverbey in the Kadikoy district off Istanbul). The cat became popular with the residents of the neighbourhood. They even made a statue of Tombili when she passed away . Unfortunately I was not able to find it when I reached there because the town council has removed it for renovation. Nevertheless, the residents there helped me to find Tombilli's brother who is still living there. The journey of finding cats took me to the streets around Istanbul. Cats are everywhere in Istanbul. Turkish people are so kind to animals and it is really amazing to see so many public cat houses in the parks for the strays. I was in Izmir Karsiyaka to visit my friends and also had the opportunity to paint with a few watercolour artists in this town. These are all the paintings I did when I was in Turkey for 3weeks.
